New Facebook Privacy Setting: Disable It from Sharing Your Info

Today, the new Facebook Privacy Setting called “Instant Personalization” goes into effect. The new setting will allow your data to be shared with non-FaceBook sites and is automatically ‘enabled’ on your account right now.

If you would like to change this, here's how:
  1. Log into your Facebook Account
  2. Click on the drop down menu "Account" (upper right corner) and select "Privacy Settings"
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the page and you'll see a box titled "Apps and Websites" - click "Edit Your Settings"
  4. Find "Instant Personalization" and click "Edit Settings"
  5. Finally, uncheck the box in front of “Enable” (you may need to exit a pop up winder first)

I know that sounds like a lot of steps, but it is really easy - and very important if you don't your information shared around the web without your permission.

In addition, if your friends don’t do this, they might be sharing info about you as well. So, feel free to click one of the share buttons (for Facebook, Email, Twitter, etc) below this post and send it to all of your friends!

Thanks, A Thrifty Mom!

I did this, but mine was not already checked. But your info stays on Facebook is not shared outside of FB with the sites.

"Social plugin content comes directly from Facebook and no information is shared with the websites themselves." (from the Instant Personalization page)

Still good for a heads up though!

Thanks, Micael, I saw that too, but then they also say that the instant personalization is NOT a social plug-in. So confusing. I watched the video and it looks like they share all kinds of wonky info ... like your movie likes, etc. I'd rather be safe than have my info all over the internet ... ha ha, you know, more than it is already!! :)
