When I discovered that Earth Day would fall on Good Friday this year, I will admit that I was disappointed. I think that the hustle and bustle of the Easter Bunny & massive amounts of chocolate (all of which, my family participate in) distracts us from the real reason for this holiday enough. Now, to throw Earth Day into the mix this year, it just made me sad. I hope that as you guys are rushing around preparing for the Easter festivities and snagging the Earth Day freebies, you'll stop to remember who loved this Earth first - and why we are able to enjoy its bounty.
Last year, I posted the verses from Luke 23 that recap the events of Jesus' sacrafice for us. I encourage you to read them this year, but I wanted to post the lyrics to one of my favorite hymns, which captures and personalizes the events in a way that moves my heart deeply.
How deep the Father's love for us
How vast beyond all measure
That He would give His only Son
To make a wretch His treasure
How great the pain of searing loss
The Father turns His face away
As wounds which mar the chosen One
Bring many sons to glory
Behold the Man upon a cross
My guilt upon His shoulders
Ashamed, I hear my mocking voice
Call out among the scoffers
It was my sin that held Him there
Until it was accomplished
His dying breath has brought me life
I know that it is finished
I will not boast in anything
No gifts, no powr's, no wisdom
But I will boast in Jesus Christ
His death and resurrection
Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart
His wounds have paid my ransom
How Deep the Father's Love for Us

Wondering why He came for you?! Me too. Take comfort in knowing that He values you more than many sparrows (Matt 10:29-31), and that His sacrifice did not stop at the cross, but He conquered death on the third day - giving us the salvation we celebrate on Easter Sunday!

I love this song also. It is so true, so many get lost in the commercialism of Easter than the true meaning. The ulitimate sacrifice, for me, for you. For each and every person, so many who do not repay this love. I hope you and your family have a very blessed Easter.
One of my favorites too. Thanks for sharing.
Such a beautiful hymn! I've been listening to it on Selah's You Deliver Me album. This week, my boys and I have been reading the scriptures on the events leading up to the cross and it never ceases to amaze/humble me! Jim Daily of Focus on the Family had some awesome blog postings this week on Jesus' last words. May you and your family have a wonderful Easter! Thanks for all you do!

I understand how you might be sad that Earth Day and Good Friday were on the same day, but I wanted to share with you why I was actually excited about it this year: You see, my husband and my anniversary is April 22, which just happens to be Earth Day, every year (which is less than celebratory in my mind), but this year, not only were there 3 things for people to celebrate this year on that date, but I actually got to share my Anniversary with a very important day, Good Friday, and not simply Earth Day. So, you see, I found it as a type of blessing. I just wanted to share that with you.

I love this song. Thanks for posting.
