Marley & Me: The Puppy Years DVD *GIVEAWAY*

Marley & Me: The Puppy years will be arriving on Blu-Ray and DVD on August 16th.  Following the box office smash hit of Marley and Me, the world's most misbehaved dog returns in Marley & Me: The Puppy Years as a loveable pint size puppy. This time Marley spends the summer with his owner, Bodie Grogan, who has to live with his strict veteran grandfather while trying to prepare Marley for the neighborhood dog agility contest. This is a fantastic adventure filled with fun, laughs, and love.

Grandpas Military Discipline Guide

Being a seasoned Army veteran, Grandpa knows how to whip someone into shape! In Marley and Me: The Puppy Years Grandpa gets Bodie in line by making him do chores around the house , including things such as making his bed correctly to mowing the lawn. That being said, we wanted to take a nod from Grandpa and give some helpful hints and tips to encourage your kids to do chores around the house.
  • Use A Reward System - As a reward for Bodie doing chores around the house, Grandpa decided to build the dog agility course, which is a great way to persuade your kids to do their chores. Having a system that won't be taken advantage of, such as rewarding a child for every five chores they accomplish, is a great way to reward your child.
  • Don’t Turn Chores into Punishment - If your kids misbehave - DON'T punish them by making them do chores, as there simply is no way to learn a lesson out of that. They only time children should be told to do a chore is if they did wrong to another sibling, with their chore acting as a way of making up for it and showing sincerity. This is a great lesson to teach kids so they can learn how to forgive and make up for their actions.
  • Consider Giving Kids an Allowance - Giving children an allowance as an incentive is a good thing - but this system can be abused if it isn't carefully monitored! Hence, it may be a good idea to have a penalty system; i.e., for every chore your child forgets to do, they lose a dollar off their allowance they would have received.
  • Have A Structured System - Every morning Grandpa made Bodie make his bed with hospital corners, and having a structured system is very important when it comes to getting your kids to complete their chores for many reasons. Having your family do certain tasks at the same times every day allows for them to be on a schedule so that they know what is expected at a certain time.
  • Time your child's performance - This is a great way to motivate your kids to complete their chores and have it done in a time frame you want it in. By saying that a certain chore is not done by a certain time with the knowledge that something fun is going to be taken away for the night is a great motivator and allows you to not constantly nag on your kids to do their chores.

When my children were younger, we would sing the Barney song (clean up)and that got them motivated to clean up.

I have a chore chart for my 3 and 5 year olds, and each chore they complete they get a sticker on their chart. At the end of the week, if they've completed all their chores, learned their memory verse and worked hard on their manner for the week, they get to pick a "prize" out of our "prize box" :)

We did the same thing as the other person. Lol. We sang the Barney clean up song. My daughter is now 15 years old and she cleans to earn an allowance, which works for younger ones too. And a lot of times I will find her cleaning her room just because she is my daughter and we are big organizers. She has been cleaning and organizing for days so things will be in order for the start of school.

We sing together while we do them. Sometimes they get money or special treats - that always works well.

We like to use the "getting tired" method for our kids and their chores. If they are dragging their feet about getting them done, all we have to say is "You're moving pretty slow there. Are you tired?" and they immediately give a loud "NO!" and spring into ation. At our house, if you're too "tired" to take care of your responsibilities, then you need more rest, which means going to bed early... =)

We have a system that uses "pom poms." We have 2 plastic containers. She can earn 4 pom poms per day if she does everything she is supposed to. She gets extra for doing extra. She can lose them for not doing what she is supposed to do. We blend behavior and chores.

It wasn't creative it was just the way it was; we usually had something special we'd do om weekends(movie, park, picnic) and if they didn't have their chores done we didn't go. As soon as they learned I meant what I said the chores were done.
