Gifts That Give: Tupperware Fundraiser for FPIES + GIVEAWAY

THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED.
Congrats to our winner #35: MamaErin.

Since I know what a loving and generous community you all are, I thought that I would pass along a great opportunity for you to score some holiday gifts (or items for yourself) and help out my extended family at the same time! My sister has a daughter with a very rare and severe food allergy condition. Below you can find some information directly from my sister, and then a few links for ways in which you can help fund research for the condition!

Our precious, 9 month old, Hannah has recently been diagnosed with a rare, cell-mediated, food allergy called FPIES. (Food Protein Induced Enterocolitis Syndrome)

Food Protein-Induced Enterocolitis Syndrome (FPIES) is a condition that affects infants and young children. Current research is needed, as many children over the age of 5 are still affected by FPIES as well. FPIES is a non-IgE allergy. The symptoms of this type of allergic reaction are delayed and include repetitive vomiting that may not start for a few hours following ingestion of the food to which the child is allergic. Even trace amounts can trigger a reaction. There is often diarrhea filled with blood, mucous and undigested foods that starts later. In some cases, the reaction includes hypotension and lethargy. Occasionally, the child becomes so severely dehydrated from uncontrollable vomiting and diarrhea that they run the risk of fatal shock. The treatment is symptomatic and can include hospitalization for IV fluids and steroids. The latter is given because the pathophysiology is that of a T-cell response.

Basically, Hannah's system is unable to tolerate the proteins found in many foods. We have yet to find a food that she does tolerate. Right now it is just breast milk and even then I must be extremely careful about what I eat or she will react to my milk as well. In the meantime, I will be living on pork, Utz potato chips, broccoli and asparagus. It will be an interesting holiday season....

There is very little known about this condition at this time. We are working diligently to find answers for our little girl and would like your help. Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is preparing to do a 3 year study. The study will cost about $80,000 a year. The families affected by this are working hard to raise some of the funds so the research can begin.

There are 2 main ways that you can help them reach these fund raising goals:

  •  Consider making a Tupperware purchase through THIS LINK -- 40% of the sales will go directly towards the fundraising goal - you'll be rewarded with some great products, plus the satisfaction of knowing your purchase is helping others!  They have many wonderful stocking stuffers, as well as many traditional favorites.  Orders must be received by November 30th!

It would mean so much to my family if you would prayerfully, and financially, consider making a contribution.  If you are unable to donate, please keep this family in prayer!  Please feel free to share this cause, sale, and giveaway with your family and friends!!   From my family to yours - thank you!!

The funniest thing happened today...I accidentally melted my FAVORITE tupperware bowl by placing it on a hot burner. I've had that thing for 20 years and I immediately want to replace it. Not sure it the current catalog has it but I'm going to check your link now.

I've already got my one holiday wish this year and it's to have my family home and together. I have a special needs child and we had to hospitalize him earlier this year - he was in crisis, but since then he's like a new child and it's just so wonderful to be a family again.

My daugher also has FPIES - our story is fpiesofourlives.blogspot.com
Check it out! She's 18 months old today and we continue to struggle although we have a small menu now. She's on a prescription formula and that is how she is thriving.

Jennifer said...

This is such a great cause & I think its awesome what your doing! The thing I would love most for Christmas would be my husband to be home for the birth of our daughter in a few weeks. Unfortunately that won't be possible to so just a healthy baby will be sufficient! My husband is currenly serving in Afghanistan in the Marine Corps which is how I know Bob & Marcia!
