As you may remember, my girls fell in love when we got the opportunity to perform a review of Polly Pocket Stick’n'Play Sets & Dolls! To their sheer delight, our review opportunity didn’t end there … and neither did the love of Polly Pocket! We were also sent a Polly Pocket Playtime Pet Shop Playset!! Complete with the ULTIMATE Pet Shop, a Polly doll, 8 pets, a swing, pet toys, and loads of accessories, my girls have been entertained for weeks with this new set!
Unlike the previous Polly Pocket set we were sent, this one does not have the suction cups on the bottom, which means that I prefer the other set to this one (the suction cups are such a great idea and help when cleaning up so much!!). BUT – the Pet Shop set is really cute and very fun – even for me! I think like most kids their age, my daughters love anything and everything having to do with animals – especially when they can feed, bath, walk, groome, and play with them (even if they are plastic – which just makes caring for them easier).
The Polly Pocket Playtime Pet Shop has a lot going on – with 2 levels of fun, a store-front area, a bathing area, a swing, an elevator, a rotating pet display, pet carrying case, and so much!! There is a lot to keep even the most demanding kids entertained! Plus, I love that there is enough space and options that both of my girls can play with the set at the same time and not fight over the same toys (well, usually not fight over them).
We were also sent a copy of the movie Polly Pocket: Friends Finish First. Sadly, although my girls loved the movie, I was not such a fan. The main adult character is very demanding and overpowering. We’re extremely careful with the kind of entertainment that our girls take in. I’ve never understood the purpose of teaching bad behavior for 20 minutes and then trying to cram in the corrective behavior in the last few minutes. My kids walk away more impacted with the poor habits than with the intended lesson.
While this movie was definitely kid-friendly and didn’t have any bad language, crude behavior, or violence, it is still not a movie that I feel good about my kids watching because of the overwhelming presence of “bad behavior”. It is also a movie all about competitiveness and I love my girls’ attitude towards winning right now! We’ve carefully taught them that winning isn’t the most important part of any task, that hard work and the effort put into something still makes the task worthwhile even if you don’t “win”, and that we should be supportive and encouraging when others win while not rubbing it in when we win. I don’t want the over-competitiveness in this movie re-writing those lessons we’ve diligently instilled in our kids.

All in all, we’re definitely Polly Pocket toy fans!! My girls still play with all of the Polly Pocket toys we’ve received and they seem to be holding up very well, so I forsee them being played with for years to come!
