We’re Having a BABY!!!

by Alecia on June 7, 2012

Yes, the rumors are true!!  We’re having (another) baby … in November!  We’re 16 weeks along and everything is sailing along smoothly so far.  I’m thankful beyond comprehension that we’ve had no complications thus far & that this has been, to date, my most drama-free pregnancy!  Both of our girls are thrilled to be expecting a baby sibling (Bella keeps trying to show my belly to every stranger we meet)!!  And, of course, Chris & I are overjoyed!

After losing a baby in October, we were anxious to get pregnant again, but the process took longer than we expected.  I was even more of a wreck when we finally got pregnant than I thought I would be (and I was expecting to be a bit of a mess).  We’ve had an ultrasound after every doctor’s visit (mostly b/c they haven’t been able to pick up the heartbeat on the little Doppler yet) & our doctor has been amazingly understanding and patient with us!

While I have been a bit sick, which is nothing new to pregnancy for me, I’m starting to feel a turn in the tides and am picking up more energy, “tossing fewer cookies”, and growing a larger waistline.  I will be very glad when I can finally start feeling the baby kick and move regularly – so far, just a few flutters.

To be honest, my heart feels suspended.  I find myself praying constantly that the Lord would protect this baby (which I’ve done with every pregnancy), but this time I seem to clench my fists a bit when I beg Him to be merciful and faithful (which I know He always is), as if I’m physically clinging to this baby with all of my might.  It is difficult to imagine how my heart would swell and break if we were to lose another baby.  I know so many others have walked that path, and they bear the scars & “stretch marks” on their hearts to prove it.  I have never felt immune to suffering (far from it), but I still find myself praying “Please, Lord, not again” and holding my breath in moments of uneasiness.

Thankfully, I am the daughter of a Father who is no stranger to suffering, especially that of losing a child, and I worship the One who pleaded and begged with the Lord to rescue Him, and though He was heard, He was not rescued.  As Hebrews 5: 7-10 tells us …

During the days of Jesus’ life on earth, he offered up prayers and petitions with fervent cries and tears to the one who could save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverent submission. Son though he was, he learned obedience from what he suffered and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him and was designated by God to be high priest in the order of Melchizedek.

An amazing friend of mine shared the above verses and revelation with me when we lost the baby in the Fall.  I have clung to the knowledge that I too am being “qualified” and that the Lord ever hears my pleas, though He may not rescue me immediately.  This Truth is absolute in every area of my life, whether I recognize it or not.

Thank you, friends, for supporting and uplifting my tender family over the past few months.  I know that you will rejoice with us as we expect a new addition in November, and will continue to lift us up in prayer as we worry and stumble through a process that we ultimately have no control over.  (isn’t that always true, though?!)  I am thankful for an amazing support system and a God who hears and qualifies me – in suffering and joy!

Your news is wonderful and your blog gave me chills. It took me 6 pregnancies to get the 2 kids that I have, they’re 4.5 years apart and now grown (27 and 32). I can relate to what you’ve said about the clenched fists, the prayers, everything…its exactly what I did. After a traumatic birth and loss at 6 months and a miscarriage at 14 weeks I was so scared that I didn’t even want to go to the doctor. He was patient with me, did the blood test to check hormone levels and then made a plan. I had to get to 15 weeks before I could get the circlage on my cervix…after they put it in they came in every 30 minutes, checking for contractions. I guess if you have contractions after the procedure they take the circlage out saying you’re going to miscarry. The funny thing is that I was having contractions but my son seemed to sense when they were coming in so as soon as they’d walk in, the contractions would stop. I thank God for him every day, I went through so much to have him, including a husband who wasn’t supportive. After so many losses he couldn’t handle it. But Jon and I hung in there together and made it. I will keep you and your new little soul in my prayers..

Dianna – your story is one of such great loss, but also hope & encouragement!! Your ability to cling to the Lord through such trials is a wonderful reminder that our strength is not our own, but borrowed from the Most High!! Thank you for sharing your own struggles & joys … and for the sweet prayers for my own family!!! xoxo

CONGRATULATIONS Alecia and family! I knew that balloon dress was gonna be perfect for you. It will give the tax deduction something to do while the boring adults chat it up at Social Soiree! Looking at the sonogram pic, the baby looks like me don’t ya think? Okay ignore that, next thing you know you will be trying to hit me up for child support. Seriously, congratulations! I am so happy for you guys!!!

I actually thought that your balloon dress would help my baby bump blend right in!!! I just might need it in a few sizes larger!

Thanks for the well wishes, T. I love you!!

Such a beautiful post. My joy and excitement for you is overwhelming. We also lost our first in the month of October. And it felt like that loss marred all future pregnancies with fear and worry. But as you said our God is faithful and I know He uses all things for good and to bring glory to His name. So no matter what, I will always proclaim “Blessed be the name of the Lord!”

Oh Kate, I didn’t know that!!! I’m so sorry for your loss. I’m sure that your adorable son (who could not be any more perfect) has helped spur and heal you!! I admit that having lost a baby has put more “real” fears into this pregnancy, but I also remember the loss so vividly and it helps to remind me how precious the prize at the end is. I hope you find that as well!!! Praying that the Lord will bless your family with more adorable babies … soon!! xoxo

Oh Congratulations Alecia! I am so happy for you – and now even more sad that I can’t give you a hug in person at Blogher – but I’m sending a virtual one! Praying His arms will surround you and your baby :)

Thanks, Melissa! I too am very bummed that you won’t be at BlogHer, but at least I got to meet you last year … and your sweet little one! Won’t lie – I’m thankful this baby will still be in my belly come August (easier transportation that way). I was amazed how how relaxed you looked last year with a newborn!!!

Thank for the prayers and support, too! Our family is so blessed to have amazing friends – both physical and virtual!

Babies are truely a gift from God. :) Keep trusting and watching to see what he does in your life, your husband’s, and your children’s lives. He is the author of life and writes a wonderful book all about it.

What an awesome blessing!! When I found out I was pregnant with my daughter, I made a “deal” with the Lord that if the baby wasn’t going to make it at any point to just take him or her right away…..I was sicker than a dog the entire 35 weeks I was pregnant but never had one contraction til after she was born by c-section, had no blood or leaking and my girl was and is the best blessing of my life. =)

Awe, Gena, that’s a great story!!! So far the Lord seems to know that my heart is too fragile for much pregnancy-drama. I’m trying not to take His generosity for granted :)

Congratulations on your new little one! I’ve been through all the nail biting after a miscarriage and know what that’s like. But as you do, trust in the Lord for he is Good. It’s great that you have a supportive doctor who understands your anxiety. I was almost glad that I had gestational diabetes with my son, because it meant that they would be watching me that much more closely. I’m sure God will bless you with the most perfect little one. In the meantime, may He put His arms around you, calm your fears and hold you all close.

Thank you, Kathy, for the encouraging words! I know that I am far from alone in this process, but being reminded that others have experienced the same fears – and blessings – is an amazing comfort and lends me so much support!! xoxo
