Earth Day Tips + PUR One-Click Faucet Mount *GIVEAWAY*

by Alecia on April 20, 2012

Lowering your family’s carbon footprint is simpler than most would expect! As you’re planning your Earth Day activities, be sure to consider these tips from PUR which prove that you can be a little more earth friendly by only making minor changes to your everyday life.

    • Swap Household Cleaners: Switching to plant based products reduces air pollution both indoors and out, minimizing exposure to both asthma and allergy triggers as well as chemicals that can be harmful to your health.
    • Shoes Off: By removing your shoes when you enter a home you prevent outside toxins like car exhaust, chemicals, and pesticides from being tracked all over your home.
    • Ditch Bottled Water: Americans spend over $15 billion each year on bottled water and all of those bottles produce up to 1.5 million tons of plastic waste per year. By switching from bottled water to PUR faucet filtered water, you’ll get 400 gallons of clean filtered water a year—which is like making thousands of plastic water bottles disappear.
    • Unplug, Don’t Just Turn Off: Unplug your TV, stereo, computer, microwave and other electronics because all electronic equipment and appliances still use energy even when they’re turned off. Try a power strip that you can keep turned off when you’re not using one of these items.
    • Cold Water Wash: Ninety percent of the energy used in clothes washing goes to heat the water. Therefore, cold water washes is a simple way to cut energy use drastically. Also, make sure you’re doing a full load. You can even take efficiency a step further and air dry items instead of using the dryer.

All of these little changes can really add up to make a difference!

To help encourage you on your greener quest, PUR is offering one reader a PUR One-Click Faucet Mount Water Filtration System in Chrome.  Just use the easy form below to enter for a chance to win …

I have changed all the light bulbs. Now I have put all the tv’s and computers on strips and turn them off when we leave or if we won’t be using them for a while.

I’ve already switched to using only cold water for the laundry. I wash & re-use those plastic water bottles & just fill them up again from the tap, but eventually I have to buy new ones… so I’m working on getting a bunch of aluminum-type bottles for the family. =)

we use reusable shopping bags, bring our own cups for coffee and tea, we use real plates, no paper. we recycle magazines, dont subscribe to the paper, and use cloth towels instead of paper towels. right now we buy water in jugs and use our own cups instead of bottled water. this would make filling those cups much easier! we do have aluminum bottles, but we both like straws, so we use the cups.
