This event is all about food and community! Attendees can get up-close with the contestants and watch them cook, plus ask them anything they'd like! I was able to talk with a few of the contestants and am impressed by the mix of regular, everyday at-home cooks and semi-professional chefs who are used to the competitive circuit. This really is anybody's fight to win!
I was even able to chat with a few of the judges from the Culinary Institute of America! Their tip for how to add flavor without calories to your cooking - use fresh herbs!! Which of course is healthier and tastier, but is also cheaper - because you can grow them yourself!

Not only have I had a great time covering the event, but I even got to be a JUDGE for the final round of the day! Oh yes, I am kind of a big deal like that ... LOL! It was an amazing experience to be able to critique the food with such a wonderful group of talented and well-paletted judges like the Food Director for Family Circle Magazine!
I posted loads of live tweets, pictures, and cooking tips to the #SSFoodFight stream on Twitter, so be sure to check it out! And don't forget to follow me (@savings_steward) so you're always in the loop!
