Barbie Apparel for Girls Review

by Alecia on August 28, 2012

Being the mom of 2 budding fashionistas, my girls are constantly wanting to dress themselves!  And I know I’m not alone out there!  I want to encourage their independence and creative natures, but also don’t want to give up comfort or decency in these endeavors.  Not to mention these “I do!” moments aren’t always stress-free on either end – me wanting to help them find the right hole, them being frustrated that they’re now tangled in a t-shirt web.  With moms and kids like us in mind, Mattel’s new Barbie Apparel line encourages Moms and daughters to come together and share in the fun of creating outfits with the help of one of their favorite dolls: Barbie!

Allowing girls to pick out their own clothes gives them a sense of empowerment and confidence. Specifically created to allow for easy dressing, the Barbie line of clothing comes in fun patterns and colors and is complete with details girls love, like ribbons, ruffles, and character art. The mix and match combination possibilities make it fun for girls to dress and express themselves!

We were recently sent a few samples of the new Barbie apparel to review. We received (2) t-shirts in Size 5 for my older daughter and (1) t-shirt and (1) skirt in Size 3 for my younger daughter. I’ll admit, I was not as impressed as I thought I would be. The designs are cute and very Barbie-inspired, but the crafting of them leaves moms searching for quality items wanting more. The glitter on the t-shirts ended up everywhere, the fabric is very thin, the stitching uneven in places and not instilling confidence in a long-term hold, and the sizing a bit off (i.e. the size 5 t-shirts were short and very wide).

I was really excited to hear about this new line of clothing that was putting an emphasis on kids dressing themselves, but after testing out the products, I’m a little confused where the specific items meet this need in a unique way. The items I received did not have buttons or zippers, but beyond that, they blend in with the rest of the clothing in my girls’ closets when it comes to “dress-ability”.

The best part of this review was our FASHION SHOW!! My girls thought it was so fun to dance around the living room in their new outfits. As you can see from the video, they’re best dancing skill is twirling :) All in all, while I was left wanting a bit more from the clothing line, my girls were ecstatic with the items and have begged several times to wear “Barbie” since we’ve received the pieces.

The new line of Barbie Apparel for Girls is available at Walmart and at very affordable price points!
