About Alecia: Balancing Blogging & Coupon Worth!

Sabrina asked me a great question on Do you know my first name?
How do you find time to blog with 2 kids and what makes the time you spend blogging and couponing worth it for you and your family.
I thought this was such a perfect question for me to address this week!  First off, I am working on perfecting my time management so that I can easily balance family, housework, and blogging.  As part of this effort, I’m perfecting my weekly schedule, and working on creating a loose daily schedule as well.  I try to focus on my family first, and remind myself that blogging is a hobby right now.  I love it, but it needs to come after the needs of my husband and kids.  Most of my heavy duty blogging happens during the kids’ nap times and after they go to bed.  I try to schedule a few posts throughout the day so that I don’t feel like my readers are being neglected while I’m outside playing in the sand with the kids!  Of course, it is a work in progress, but I’m learning and perfecting more along the way.  Blogging is such a fun outlet for me, and so for now, it has definitely been worth the time and effort!!
Secondly, couponing is absolutely worth it for my family!!  As an example, Chris and I had a discuss the other day about how wonderful it was to be able to take Bella to see Toy Story 3 in the theater and not feel guilty about giving her the “whole experience”.  It is not about how much money we do (or do not) earn, but rather about how we steward that money so that we have the freedom to enjoy some of it!  Because we strive so diligently to be financially responsible, we are able to do things like take Bella to see a movie! Two of our tickets were free from the TS3 Blu-Ray promo, so we were able to buy her candy and popcorn, and even had lunch afterwards, without breaking our budget or walking away feeling guilty.
My biggest goals in “couponing” are to be financially responsible so that the Lord is pleased, to have freedom within our life that is created out of financial security, and to be able to give more of our money to worthy causes (Ministry Money, for example).  I feel like couponing is a lot of work!!  It is time consuming, overwhelming sometimes, adds a new element of stress to shopping trips, and can be frustrating, but IT IS WORTH IT!!  Don’t believe me?  Check out our “Year-to-Date Savings” tracker in the top, left sidebar of the blog!  So far this year, we’ve SAVED over $1600 just from our “couponing” endeavors!!  That’s enough money for a nice vacation, a few house payments, or a good chunk into savings!!!

I want to know -
What makes “couponing” worth it to you?

Very well said Alecia. You are a prime example of what it takes to be a wonderful wife and mother. Women of all ages could learn from you. Keep up the good work. And may God continue to bless you and your family.

What makes couponing worth it to me? Why all the piles of money I get to roll around in of course!

Ha Ha!

Seriously though, couponing has actually helped bring our finances on track. I got into coupons b/c the Mister took a large pay cut (think over $50k a year less) and we were sinking fast. Last year, my first year couponing, I was able to save our family over $8,000.00. By becoming more aware and conscious of money on food and household items, it made us that much more aware in other aspects of our lives. This year I have already saved us just over $6,000.00. Thanks to my savings from coupons we have paid off our car, and outright bought a motorcycle for the Mister. Outside of rent/utilities, that now leaves us debt free to focus on saving to buy our own home!

And like you Alecia, it's not just about food, couponing has freed us up to do so many other great things without worrying about the financial burden. We too will be going to see Toy Story 3 for free (our 5 plus we're taking my dad) thanks to coupons. I am able to stock up on great family movies and games for free. I could ramble forever about it. We bring in less income than we ever have in our entire relationship and yet we are the richest. The point is: couponing is great and my life wouldn't be the same without it!
